August 12-18: The Ironman Week

I don’t have a full race report for Ironman Mont Tremblant finished, but can report that I didn’t meet my A goal of breaking 13 hours. Even though I went 35 minutes faster than I did at IMKY last year, I was disappointed in how the race turned out, for many reasons.

That said, any day that you cover 140.6 miles under your own power is a good day. Don’t forget that.

Monday: An untimed 2500 meter swim, with 5x100s at a “fast” effort.

Tuesday: Quick mid-week brick, including 1 hour of easy work on the bike trainer and 30 minutes of easy running around the neighborhood.

Wednesday: 4.5 miles of easy jogging. I was supposed to warm up a mile, run 2 miles at “Ironman pace,” and then cool down a mile, but “Ironman pace” is so slow that it’s basically the same as warm up/cool down pace, so I went untimed here, too.

Thursday: Rest day, including most of the drive up to Mont Tremblant.

Friday: A few hours of driving, race check in, then the final pre-race bike and run. 40 minutes of biking, 20 minutes of running, and then calling it a day.

Saturday: A 20 minute swim in Lac Tremblant. And a lot of list-checking and packing.

Sunday: 2.4 miles of swimming in 1:04, 112 miles of biking in 7:12, and 26.2 miles of “running” (maybe 12 miles of running and 14.2 miles of power walking) in 5:08 for a total race time of 13:36:59.

  1. You are still my hero. I would still be out there trying to complete the swim if I had attempted this. Congrats doll!

  2. I am proud of you for finishing and I always will be. You did incredable and don't take your time lightly. I know it isn't what you wanted but seriously 140.6? I cringe driving that far (I know how nonathletic of me to say) and racing that far and long. I want to give you the dailymile your inspiration sticker on every media platform.

I don't think anyone ever will. I know I probably seem like an annoying fangirl, but I'm in awe of anyone who can complete an Ironman, and I admire you even more because you have so many other issues to deal with, you work your arse off, and you still finish in a time to be proud of.

  4. Ironman seems like a truly crazy beast. Good on you for getting it done -- though of course it sucks to not quite have the day you wanted. I don't know how anyone ever has a "perfect" Ironman. It just sounds like there's so much that can throw you off. So getting through (with a PR, to boot!) is still pretty sweet.

  5. I stalked your tweets, so I'm sort of piecing together how the race went, but I still can't wait to read your recap. I'm so proud you finished, not to mention you shaved off 35 minutes. And don't be too hard on yourself. You trained and raced your butt off, so savor the accomplishment!

  6. Not to be all pollyanna about it, because it's hard when we don't have the race we want, congrats on finishing and on a PR.
The jacket and medal, by the way, are awesome. I realize that there is a lot more to it than that, but I'd be excited to have those in my possession.

  7. Well I don't really know what to say because I am super impressed but I really hate when I have a bad race and people are all "at least you finished!" so....yeah.

  8. Congrats on the finish, even if you didn't have your best run. It looks like a tough course. Awesome =)

  9. I'm with Alyssa. I mean, I'm totally in awe of Ironpeople, but I know how much I hate it when people say "but you finished a marathon!" But still...a solid week of work on your part.
